My name is Taylor Cosby. My husband and I live in Rogersville, Alabama with our two children. I am a stay at home mother with a part time barber shop clientele three afternoons a week. This allows me to have a very flexible schedule where I can homeschool my son and take on doula clients as available. I am a Certified Labor Doula (CLD) through the Childbirth and Postpartum Professionals Association (CAPPA) (www.cappa.net). I received CAPPA certification in June 2019 and completed my entire training within 8 months! I have attended a training in Spinning Babies and also have a passion for Hypnobirthing.
My love for all things birth, babies, and breastfeeding began when I was pregnant with my son. After lots of reading and research, I decided that a natural birth using Hypnobirthing methods was the best plan for us. At the time, I felt most comfortable in a hospital setting due to some previous fertility problems. When I finally became pregnant with my daughter I decided to have a home birth with local Certified Professional Midwives. My pregnancy and birth with my daughter took place during the Covid-19 pandemic amongst lots of uncertain times and restrictions in our country. Being able to give birth in the safety and security of my own home was a nice change of pace compared to the “outside world”. After both birth experiences I can definitely attest to the pros and cons of each decision.
My philosophy of birth is constantly evolving with every birth and mother I encounter. I believe birth is a beautiful and natural experience and should be allowed to progress as naturally as possible or as desired by the mother. I do believe there is a time and place for medicine and interventions though. Knowledge is very empowering and can help women be prepared for this life changing moment. I hope to help other women learn about the various options for birth and help them achieve whatever plan they think best for their families.
